A cry from the Desert
Contributed by: Leonard Pennington on 6/12/2008

Why such a desolate place oh Lord?

Why must you leave me in this dessert by myself.

My tongue thirsting but never quenched.

My soul on fire, burning,

forever burning, smoke billowing to the heavens.

Such torment, where can one go

for relief when God has turned His

face from him. What good can come from

such destruction. What joy can be found

in this pain. Oh God, what good can

come from man.

I have been to my dessert place, oh Lord,

How lonely it is surrounded only by fear,

guilt and shame. Man left at his own device.

When shall we learn?

After our dessert time? Knowing man, usually

not!

Does learning come from our thirst?

If only it would we would learn

so much from your grace.

After the fire, Oh Lord, is that

when we see the truth?

Only those who call on his name

ever see the truth.

The flames can purify, or they can perish.

They can refine the gold to its purist form,

or it can reduce the

work of a mans life to cinders.

For life is nothing but shadows and dust

Truth lies in the spirit and the spirit lies with God.

Know the spirit and know the truth

Know the truth and you shall truly be free.
