My first Mothers Day
Contributed by: Susan F. Scherer on 5/1/2008

I can not wait .

For the first time in my life I am looking forward to Mother's Day.

For years when folks have wished me a happy mothers day, I have always cringed.

There is no way to tell if you are a mom or not by looking at someone.

Having a child doesn't change your hair color, (although my mom would probably debate that fact).
Just because I am female though people, who don't know me have always wished me those sunny wishes in May. And it always hurt.

See I haven't been a MOM.
I never stayed up all night with a crying child.
I never did lots of stuff.

But this May I can smile brightly on Mother's Day.
You see 21 years ago I was 'in a different place' in my life. And on May 6th 21 years ago I gave birth to a little girl.
She was perfect.
21 years ago though I was not ready to be MOMMY. So she was placed with a loving family in an adoption.
And I left the hospital and continued on.

In November 2007, my phone rang, and someone from the agency called me to tell me that my daughter wanted to talk to me. That my daughter wanted to meet me.

So this year, finally I am MOMMY.

To every one out there that is a mommy again, newly a mommy or never going to be a mommy.
Happy Mother's Day.
