Silver Platter Entrées, located at 1592 S.E. Village Green Drive in Port St. Lucie has been offering a summer cooking camp for children. The camp runs from 9-12, Monday - Friday. Each week a different theme is offered. This week's camp is teaching children how to make, bake and decorate cakes, bake pies, make puddings, mousses and meringues. This week's class started with a balloon birthday cake (seen in picture.) The children did all the work themselves!
Next week's camp (July 28 - Aug 1) will teach children how to prepare and make a wide variety of foods for dinner. The children will learn about the food pyramid so they will understand each food group and know how to choose healthy foods from each group. Each day they will prepare the foods, then have lunch! (If there are leftovers the children can take them home to their parents.)
The last week of camp (August 4-8) will teach children more about baking. That week's camp will focus on danishes, muffins, croissants, cream puff and éclairs, plus parfaits and puff pastry dough.
Each week the children are encouraged to do their own work. They are allowed to make each item for themselves. Our philosophy of teaching is to show the children how to do something, and then let them try it for themselves; children learn more by doing.
