Pack 422 Brings Butterfly Garden to Nursing Home
Contributed by: Tena Pottorff on 10/4/2009

The Bear Den of Cub Scout Pack 422 led by their Den Leader Jill Lebofsky, created a butterfly garden as a community service project for the residents at Tiffany Hall Nursing and Rehab Center on Hillmoor Drive in Port St. Lucie.

Pinders Nursery in Palm City was so helpful in advising what plants to use and how to lay everything out. Recycling lessons were also a part of the project, as the boys used plastic water bottles in the bottom of the pots to allow drainage. The plants were put in groups of large flower pots so the bunny rabbits that run free in the courtyard couldn't reach them for dinner!

Several of the residents were brought outside to observe and enjoy all the activity as the group of 8 year olds filled the pots with soil and planted over 30 assorted plants. The parsley and fennel plants came complete with caterpillars which had already formed cocoons, so the boys were able to observe first hand the transformation.

Following all the hard work, the Activities Director of Tiffany Hall, Lisa McMannis, treated the Cubs with root beer floats.
