Smoking Time at Bowl for the Cure
Contributed by: Sue LaPointe Triumph Communications on 2/9/2009

Walking into Superplay USA on Sunday afternoon, the last thing you'd expect to see - especially on the USBC's Bowl for the Cure event - is a health vendor booth featuring people smoking cigarettes... inside.

Lured by the smoke, or just by curiosity, dozens of bowlers wanted to know what they were seeing. Many of them, smokers themselves, were intrigued to discover a product they could use that would solve many problems smokers face. Others, non-smokers, wanted to get more information to pass along to the smokers in their lives.

What were they seeing? A brand new alternative smoking product marketed locally by independent distributors Sue LaPointe, Gary Campbell, and Dee Laderer who attended the USBC event, and several other colleagues.

This electronic cigarette puts out only water vapor - giving smokers the sensation of smoking a "real" cigarette while sparing the people around them the odors and dangers associated with smoking. With more than 4,800 chemicals found in cigarettes (including dozens that are known carcinogens), it's no wonder smokers have been relegated to outside areas. The unit plugs in to charge overnight, like a cell phone. Each cigarette unit comes with replaceable cartridges that deliver synthetic, plant-based nicotine at either the high, medium, low, or no nicotine level.

Smokers who gave the cigarette a "test drag" remarked that it was the same sensation of smoking a real cigarette. Non-smokers were surprised to find that the water vapor, which looks just like real cigarette smoke, disappears within seconds and leaves no odor. This means smokers can smoke anywhere - bowling alleys, at the mall, in a movie theater, at restaurants, in their cars, even in bed - without disturbing or endangering their neighbors or causing fires.

Most booth visitors were surprised to find smoking at an event intended to support finding a cure for cancer - until they understood that this product could be a valuable tool in the fight against cancer. Many shared their stories of struggling to quit smoking, or of watching loved ones suffer with smoking-related illnesses.

Faced with an upcoming price increase of about $1 per pack of cigarettes - in the middle of a sluggish economy, smokers who have purchased this electronic cigarette report that they are cutting their expenses in half. Because the unit does not ignite, smokers can get everything their habit craves from about half as much smoking. One purchaser, who formerly smoked upwards of four packs a day, reports going through the equivalent of only one and a half packs with the electronic version. The switch will likely save him more than $200 per month, while improving his health at the same time.
