St. Lucie County Fire District Urges Residents to
Put Their Cell Phones on ICE
Fire District Joins with Law Enforcement and
Hospitals in ICE Program
The St. Lucie County Fire District, along with St. Lucie County law enforcement, today urged residents and visitors to ICE their phones.
The ICE Program is a campaign to encourage people to add an emergency phone number to their cell phones under the acronym ICE - In Case of Emergency.
"Many people leave home today without emergency contact information - but with their cell phones," said Fire Chief Ron Parrish. "Should they become involved it a medical emergency, and unable to communicate, their phone can be an asset for first responders, law enforcement, or hospitals to contact family or friends who can relay medical history information to the emergency personnel."
It is simple - choose a responsible person to be your In Case of Emergency contact. Inform that contact and then add them to your cell phone address book under the listing "I" "C" "E".
Apply an ICE Sticker to your phone. This sticker will alert first responders to check your phone and call the number if you cannot. ICE stickers will be available at any Fire Station in St. Lucie County.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, Ft. Pierce Police Department, Port St. Lucie Police Department, St. Lucie Medical and Lawnwood Medical Centers are joining the Fire District in this effort to get the word out. Each has committed to relay information to their employees and the public through various means, including posters, brochures, and decals for them.
"This program is important for our residents and also the visitors that stay here a couple days or a few months," said Parrish. "We urge everyone to ICE their phone."
