An Angel

My son just turned 20, thank God. When he was 14 and had just started High school, he met a devil. He was 2 yrs older then my son. We didn't like him from day one but we didn't want to choose his friends. Altho they were very diff in appearance.but.they had alot in common, including BB guns. My son is an expert marksman as was the kid. One day he came over and showed my son a high powered air rifle he had gotten for his birthday and would he like to go by his house to target shoot. He had special pellets that are called KILL pellets, that are used to kill small animals and birds..they look like a 22 caliber bullet.. We were shopping and did not know about this..when we got home there was a message on the answering machine that our son had been shot in the neck. We flew over there and when we turned onto the street, there were cop cars, fire/rescue, an ambulance and a news van..we were shaking and crying. They first took him to PSL hosp and then had to be flown to St, Marys as PSL did not do trauma. They took an angiogram and the bullet was right next to the carotid artery. The doc said it was nothing short of a miracle that he survived.. My son said he was sitting on the couch in the living room, playing a video game on the TV. They had been out in the yard target shooting..my son said the gun only held one bullet at a time and the gun could not shoot unless the safety lock was removed. My son said he took the last shot so the gun was empty. As he was playing the video game, the kid had been in his bedroom, he comes out with the gun and sits on the couch and was scoping the gun around the living room. My son was going to look and see what the kid was doing and moved his head just a teeny bit and was shot..he jumps up holding his neck and said, YOU SHOT ME, CALL 911....the kid looked shocked and shook his head NO..so my son ran around looking for the phone..he managed to make the call before he lost his voice and his whole side went numb..he went in the bathroom to look at the wound and when he took his hand away, the blood shot out onto the mirror..he went outside and collapsed, just when the police came. They put the kid in the cop car and took the gun and charged him with aggravated assault...Word got out that he was making a sacrifice to the devil, as he listened to Marilyn Manson and Korn and other suggestive type music. He did all of 5 days in juvenile detention and got probation..we were shocked. It was on the TV and in the papers and on the radio and online. They could not remove the bullet as he could either bleed to death or be paralyzed like Christopher Reeves..so he has to wear that bullet forever while the kid told other kids that he missed. I feel there was an Angel sitting on his shoulder on the day his life was almost over...he almost didn't see Thanksgiving...it happened on 11/13/02...and every thanksgiving we give thanks for his life and his extrardinary will to survive...he kept pressure on the wound and was able to find the phone...while all the time the kid was hoping he would die. The kid is a very sick kid and never got any help.
