"Rain,Rain,Go away....or Not"
Contributed by: Sheri Hilliard on 8/20/2008

Day two of the 2008-09 school year will be a lasting memory for my children. We were graced with the rains and winds of tropical storm Fay. Instead of the memory of catching the bus for the first time, they will remember surfing in the front yard and chasing catfish down our street. The rain was unrelenting through the day and we made games all day out of measuring rainfall and discussing the life cycle of frogs as we watched our mini tadpole farm that we collected.
I was so thankful for school to begin again and to be hit with a "storm day" on a Tuesday, was not in my game plan. I figured out how to make lemonade from the lemons the inclement weather had handed us. It was fun to "sneak in" some learning as we mixed in a lot of science throughout the day and then had the kids journal their experiences. Hope other parents took the opportunity during the day off, to reconnect with their kids and teach some life skills!
