IRCC graduates 14 St. Lucie County Fire District Firefighters from Paramedic Program

On Thursday, June 18 the Indian River Community College (IRCC) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department held graduation for students completing the Paramedic Program. The students included 14 St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) firefighters. The Paramedic Program is a 10-month program which the SLCFD students took while continuing to work full-time.

"Nearly 85% of what we do is emergency medical," said Ron Parrish, SLCFD Fire Chief. "With these graduations we enhance this service to the community, and that is a great feeling. The graduates, and their mentors, have shown a commitment and dedication to their profession through these educational endeavors."

In addition the students voted to honor 3 SLCFD firefighters/Paramedics with the Preceptor/Lab Instructor Awards. This award is given to volunteers who go above and beyond in their efforts to help train the students at the fire stations and on emergency calls. The 3 SLCFD firefighters/Paramedics honored included: Casey Hogan, Matt Amato, and Aaron Shaw.
