L-R:SBMGA President Jack Alger, Co-Chair Fred Vona, St. Lucie County Veterans Services Executive Assistant Eileen Hagerhorst, CO-Chair Phil Millevolte presenting a check for $1300 to St. Lucie County Veterans Services.
Sandpiper Bay Men's Golf Association(SBMGA)recently donated $1300 to the St. Lucie Veterans Services to help them purchase a handicapped-accessible van to transport some of the 37,000 veterans in St. Lucie County to and from the V.A. Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Each year the SBMGA holds an annual Member-Guest golf tournament at Sandpiper at Club Med. For the past three years they(SBMGA)have chosen the St. Lucie County Veterans Services as their only receipient. The first year they gave $300; last year it was $1,000, and this year $1300. Eileen Hagerhorst is an Executive Assistant with the Veterans Services. "I am overwhelmed with your generous gift," she said, "especially during such tough economic times. I want to assure you that every penny goes to helping veterans and their families. You guys are truly amazing with all the good you do," she said. "I can't begin to thank you enough."
Member-Guest Co-Chair Phil Millevolte said that "it just seemed like the right thing to do." Millevolte quoted Abraham Lincoln in part when he said. . .to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan. . .is the very least we can do." The other Co-Chair, Fred Vona, echoed Millevolte as he concluded that "we can never do enough for our veterans and their families. We only wish it could be more."
