The United States Submarine Veterans, INC (USSVI) has many "bases" throughout the United States. On 14 May 2007 the local base was formed, known as the Treasure Coast Base. It was formed for the purpose of remembering those submarine sailors now serving their country and to perpetuate and honor the memory of those submarine sailors assigned to the 52 boats lost during WWII who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and are now on "Eternal Patrol".
The Treasure Coast Base contributes to the community in many ways. To name a few: It participates in parades and memorial services, promotes the submarine service to future generations, and assists current veterans and their families in need. Any submariner who was "qualified " is eligible for membership. Meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month. (call 772 467-8954 for details)
The base recently completed the fabrication of an 18 ft model submarine which is mounted on a trailer. This model submarine is used for display, a parade float, and can be loaned for various events to promote the Submarine Service and United States Navy. In addtion, the trailer can seat up to 18 people to ride along with the model submarine when in parades.
Attached picture shows the completed submarine on it's trailer, along with the plankowner's "crew".
