On Friday, March 6, 2009 several Red Hat chapters rode a bus furnished by Jensen Beach Travel for a tour and wine tasting at Lakeridge Winery in Clermont, Florida. Chapters included Classic Crimson Cruisers, Lucie Goosies, Foxy Red Hatters, Glad Hatters of Vero, Capella Rosa, Scarlet Dames and Spicy Sassie Lassies. The Lucie Goosies sponsored this trip.
Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards opened its doors in February 1989. It sits on a 127-acre estate in gently rolling countryside.
When we first arrived we were shown a 12 minute video presentation which shows the growing of the grapes to the wine making process and finishing with the bottling and labeling. Our guide led us along a cat walk to view the production area and then outside to the balcony to see a spectacular view of the vineyards.
The Wine Tasting is held downstairs at the large tasting counter. We tasted 5-6 varieties ranging from dry to sweet with sparkling.
Afterwards we browsed the large retail area with gift shop featuring the wines, gourmet foods, and other gift and wine accessories. We all took home some wine!
After our tour of the winery, we went to the Mission Inn Resort for lunch. Mission Inn is nestled near the shores of beautiful Lake Harris in the quiet town of Howey-in-the-Hills. We had each pre-selected our lunch choices before we arrived. The place was beautiful. The food was delicious.
We boarded the bus and went to the Yalaha Bakery for coffee and dessert. Yalaha Bakery has genuine German breads and Old Word Tortes and pastries. They are free from preservatives and baked to perfection in European stone-slab ovens. You should have seen the "stampede" of women entering the bakery to order their desserts and take home selections! We sipped on our coffee and ate our pastry outside on a patio area. The weather was just beautiful.
We had a wonderful time.
