A good time was had by all at the recent Red Hat Golf Tournament at Gator Trace on Friday, April 3, 2009. The weather even cooperated!
There were 80 golfers and 7 non-golfers from Late Bloomers with Red Hattitude, Lucky Ladies, Les Femme En Rouge, Treasure Coast Rubies, South Brevard Scarlett Belles, Funtastic Red Hatters, Purple Passions of Hutchinson Island, Manatee Reds, Frilly Red Hatters, Martin County Ruby Reds and the Red Hat Gator Gals. The gals came from as far as Melbourne and Cocoa Beach, as well as Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce and Jensen Beach.
After a morning of golf, there was a luncheon. The centerpieces consisted of four bottles of wine - Cabernet, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Chardonay. Each bottle was attired in a Red hat and Purple "adornment" and there were feather fans in red and purple that gave the table a festive look. Everyone took a bottle of wine as a favor. In addition, everyone received a "door prize". There were winners, of course, but we do not place any emphasis on "winning". It is all about fun and meeting new friends.
In addition, the Gator Gals raised $1750.00 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children..not as much as in the past, but still, it brought tears to the eyes of the "clowns" (Smurfie - Bob Lussier and Chubby - Mal Brown who is 95 years old), who were there to accept the check. They did the face painting and balloon tricks, as they have done for the past 5 years. Not to toot their horn too much (as this is not the function of Red Hatters) the Gator Gals have raised nearly $20,000 for the Shriners in the past 5 years. I think that's pretty neat for a morning of golf and fun.
