Hee Haw Hoedown
Contributed by: Eileen Barrett on 4/19/2009

As you entered the saloon doors of Billy Bob's Bar, each cowgirl received a Red Bandana. There were a lot of western props for photo opportunities. The attendees dressed in denim skirts and jeans, cowboy hats and boots. Even Minnie Pearl was there! There was western music playing to set the mood. There were several WANTED posters scattered at the front of the room for Ole "Ma" Bartlett (Eileen Barrett), Fiercesome Flo (Florence Jones), Fast Draw Fannie (Lucille Petruzzelli), Little Awful Annie (Ann McCormick), El Sidney Sidewinder (Sidney Weber) and Loose Lips Linda (Linda Pellens).

Chapters attending were: Bodacious Babes, Capella Rosa, Chapeau Rouge, Classic Crimson Cruisers, Dazzling Dames in Red, Foxy Red Hatters, Les Femmes En Rouge, Lucie Goosies, Purple Passions of Hutchinson Island, Ravishing Red Hots, Razzle Raspberry Tarts, Red Hat Gator Girls, Red Hattitudes of PLV, Redda Kappa Gamma, Spicy Sassy Lassies, Shady Ladies of Vero, South Brevard Scarlet Belles, and Treasure Coast Ruby Red Jewels.

We were welcomed to the event by Linda Pellens, Queen of the Purple Passions of Hutchinson Island. She led us in the Red Hat Hoedown Pledge (which was the Red Hat Pledge rewritten by Maxine Bowman). The gals with April Birthdays were asked to stand as we either sang Happy Birthday or played it on our Kazoos.

The First Paid for the event was Lucille Petruzzelli, a member of the Lucie Goosies and Queen of the Crimson Tea Roses. She received a bottle of wine.

Linda passed the microphone to Maxine Bowman, Vice Queen of the Purple Passions of Hutchinson Island. She told us all about the trivia contest that we were about to attempt, to see how much we knew about westerns. The questions were kinda hard for us, especially since most of us are having a hard time remembering yesterday. The winner of the Trivia Contest was Lucille Hayes, Queen of Capella Rosa.

We had a delicious lunch that was catered by Jo Anne Camino. We had our choice of BBQ Chicken or BBQ Pork, served with baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad. There was cake for dessert. Drinks available were sweet tea, lemonade and coffee.

After lunch, Cathy Parker led us in some Line Dancing, the Electric Slide and the Red Hat strut.

Members of the Purple Passions had been around to all the tables and wrote down the names of those people they thought should be part of the Costume Contest. There were about 21 contestants that were narrowed down to about six. Third place went to Kathy McAmis, a member of the Lucie Goosies. Second place went to Ellen McAnellen, Vice Queen of Red Hattitudes of PLV. Our First place winner was Donna Parsons, Queen of the South Brevard Scarlet Belles.

There were lots of very nice door prizes, and there were three (3) $100 winners in the Red Hat Split. The winners were Patti Hed, Queen of Chapeau Rouge, Ethel Mae Lee, a member of the Purple Passions of Hutchinson Island and Shirley Dias, Vice Queen of Les Femme En Rouge.

Under one of the chairs at each table was a yellow sticker. The person sitting in the chair with the yellow sticker got to take home the centerpiece - a cactus.

Great Job Purple Passions of Hutchinson Island!!!
