Black Hat Elegant Diamond Divas Out on the Town
Contributed by: Eileen Barrett on 10/3/2009

On Friday, September 25, 2009 several members of the Black Hat Elegant Diamond Divas had lunch at Café L'Europe in Palm Beach. The Head Diva of this sorority is Charlotte Beasley. Other's attending this luncheon were: Jane Osborne, Jo Schlags, Marion Kirkpatrick, Jaraslava Miller, Eileen Haber, Flossy Keesley, Connie Anderson, Jane Brown, Diane Shellig, Leona Diamond, Eileen Barrett and Lucille Petruzzelli.

The ladies sitting at the next table were so impressed they wanted to join us. We created quite a stir.

On Wednesday, September 30th four members had lunch at the Breakers Seafood Bar and Grill. Elegant Diamond Divas attending were Charlotte Beasley, Diane Shellig, Eileen Barrett and Lucille Petruzzelli. Upon our arrival at the Breakers, one gentleman wanted to escort us on his arm to the restaurant and then ask if he could have his picture taken with us.

The Black Hat Elegant Diamond Divas are registered with the Black Hat Banshees and have a charter. The divas wear black hats, black outfits and bling jewelry. The purpose of the group is to get together with elegant ladies and attend gourmet luncheons at upscale restaurants and private clubs. Membership is limited to the first 25 ladies who join us. Each member will host a monthly luncheon.

The Black Hat Banshees actually started on a whim. The name Banshee is in honor of the founder's mother who used to tell her kids that they "sounded like wild banshees" when they were noisy. During a discussion, where ladies were unhappy about changes, rules, etc. within their organizations, it was proposed that we should have a Black Hat Day in fun. The Black Hat Banshees started last April 4, 2009. It is still very young.

There is a website which is www.blackhattedbanshees.com where you can see a little more about it...but it is just a one page website. There are currently 58 Sororities and counting.

The thing that makes us stand out is that we wear all black, or black hats and red attire, and a lot of BLING! Ladies are loving it. And no matter what you hear, this is NOT a rebellion and is NOT part of the Red Hat Society. This is a new organization of women who are not infringing on any other organization's rules or "intellectual property".

The requirements are simple: (1) no confusion or affiliation with the Red Hat Society. (2) Over the age of 21 and female (3) Black with a touch of Red (if desired) is the attire with Black Hats.

To register a Sorority, the Head Banshee must send in $10 for their official charter and they will also receive 20 membership cards. (They would also be invited to the private site LOTH (Ladies of the Hat). www.ladiesofthehat.com
