STAMPING OUT HUNGER AND MAKING FRIENDS
Contributed by: Susan F. Scherer on 5/10/2008

The Post Office area in St Lucie West was a busy place today, not only were there people dropping off and picking up mail, but folks were gathered to help with the Stamp Out Hunger campaign, benefiting the Treasure Coast Food Bank.

Letter carriers came through an area just past the Post Office to where there were set up two trailers with bins to collect food donated by folks in the community, that they picked up as they dropped off their mail. While it may seem that the donations are down this year compared to last year, one of the gentlemen in charge on site, Dr. Sears of the Fire House Youth Center, told me at 5:30pm, that they had one tractor trailer full of about 22400 pounds of food and were expecting to at least half fill the other one. Dr Sears stated that he expected to be out on site till about 7:30pm bringing in a total of 448000 pounds of food for the Food Bank.

If you would still like to participate you can contact the food bank at 772- 489- 5676, to make a donation of check out their website at http://www.treasurecoastfoodbank.org/.

One of the greatest accomplishments was that folks from all over were able to work together and share the joy of helping. There were volunteers both young and old present to laugh and work to help the community.
