Contributed by: Larry Breault on 9/25/2009

Scholarships help two outstanding recipients

(Port St.Lucie, FL) - The PSL Sunset Rotary Club recently awarded a scholarship for Indian River State College to a great local student. Each year the club sponsors a student who wishes to attend the local college and this year they were glad to answer the call again. PSL Sunset Rotary's new Treasurer Travis Walker of Weiss, Handler, Angelos & Cornwall PA and PSL Sunset Rotary's President elect Stephen Krumfolz of First People's Bank presented a check for $1500 to the IRSC Foundation.

The club's 2009 recipient is Tyler Brennan. This will be his first year receiving this award. Tyler is a graduate of JohnCarrollCatholicHigh School and plans to pursue a degree in Fire Science at IRSC. He was on hand at a recent meeting to receive the award from the Rotary along with Melissa DePriest, the Development Coordinator for the IRSC Foundation.

Last year's recipient from this club was Alexis Roldon
who received the scholarship for her pursuit of an Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Education. The scholarship was for a term of two years.

Community involvement is an important issue for Rotarians and the PSL Sunset Rotary has a special focus on kids. From continued efforts to raise money for the HarvestFoodOutreachCenter, Guardian Ad Litem and WPSL Christmas Kids to their sponsorship of Rotary Youth Exchange students, the PSL Sunset Rotary stays busy and welcomes new members and volunteers to help with their numerous local projects.

This year the club sent one exchange student from Florida to Bangkok and the club hosted an in-bound exchange student from Brazil. This coming year the club will be installing Peace Poles at selected sites in Port St. Lucie, working with other Rotary Clubs to provide dictionaries to all 3 rd graders in St. Lucie County, and some members will be traveling to West Africa to work with Rotary International's polio immunization being done in conjunction with Rotary International and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The group meets the 1 st & 3 rd Thursdays at 5:30 PM at Greenside Tavern in Sandpiper Golf Club. Please call Larry Breault at 772-871-1100 x201 or go to www.pslsunsetrotary.comto get directions or for more information on becoming a member of the Rotary.
