First of its kind Green Forum for St. Lucie County Candidates
A coalition of Six Treasure Coast organizations to host Forum

PORT SAINT LUCIE- Hundreds of community members gathered at the
community center in Port Saint Lucie to kick off a 3 day Green Forum for
candidates running for office in Saint Lucie County. Candidates from
every party competing for offices in Saint Lucie County, both at the
county commission and state house level, will present their platform on
the environment, energy and the green economy and answer questions from
their constituents.

The forum is a collaborative effort from 6 environmental groups
concerned about making green issues, such as water and land
conservation, renewable energy and global warming a priority in these
upcoming elections. The forum hosts include Green Peace, Treasure Coast
Chapter of Green Drinks, St. Lucie Conservation Alliance, Indian
Riverkeeper, Surfrider Foundation and the St. Lucie Audubon Society.

"The forum is primarily intended to educate voters". Says Commissioner
Doug Coward, key organizer of the Green Forum. "The co-sponsors hope to
provide candidates with the opportunity to share their views on
important green issues, such as the environment, the burgeoning green
sector of the economy, green building technologies, and more".

John O'Neil, Treasure Coast Green Drinks founder, Green Forum co-sponsor
and green business man himself adds "We want to see what our candidates
are truly supporting when it comes to alternative energy and green
collared jobs so we as voters can be fully educated prior to making our
vote."

"People all throughout Saint Lucie County are very concerned about our
environment, deteriorating water quality, preservation of the Indian
River lagoon, our growing energy crisis and its connection to our local
economy. Important green issues such as global warming will have local
impacts in all three of these areas, and it is the responsibility of our
elected officials at all levels to hear our concerns and make a
commitment to solving these problems, especially global warming." States
Lauren Thorpe, Greenpeace organizer and Forum co-sponsor.

This grassroots effort coincides with the fast approaching primary for
Florida statewide elections. Saint Lucie County members are taking the
initiative in gauging where their candidates stand on their issues
important to them before going to the polls on August 26th.
