Local Organization Gives Back
Contributed by: tony polito on 7/28/2008

The Adult Day Training Program at Gulfstream Goodwill Industries in Port St. Lucie is giving back to the community.
The Adult Day Training Program, where over 100 adults with Developmental Disabilities learn vocational, community, daily living, and social skills, is collecting pop tabs from canned beverages and food items for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida.
The Ronald McDonald House, located on the campus of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, is a temporary " home away from home" for families of sick children, to find rest, supprt, and time away from hospital procedures and routines in South Florida pediatric medical facilities.
The pop tab of an aluminum can contains a metal alloy that is more valuable than the entire rest of the can. The pop tabs can be recycled in bulk and the money raised will go directly to the Ronald McDonald House.
The people in the Adult Day Training Program have collected over 100 pounds of pop tabs so far. Ronald McDonald himself will be picking them up from the Program on September 19th.
If you would like to help, you can contact Catherine Chalmers at Gulfstream Goodwill Industries Adult Day Training Program, 1472 SE Huffman Road in Port St. Lucie, or call 772-337-0077.
