In February, in Las Vegas, theTri County Computer User Group (TCCUG) was presented with the APCUG (Association of Personal Computer User Groups) 2nd Place Award in the Very Large- more than 250 members-Category. TCCUG is an all volunteer, non-profit making organization that stemmed from the concept of "People Helping People". TCCUG began its journey in 1981 with the merging of two local computer organizations and has seen slight name changes through the years until 1997 when it was awarded a tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. This milestone recognizes TCCUG's many public services to the community and ranks it among the prestigious non-profit organizations serving the citizens of our area.
Following the precepts of the Organization, computer classes are help several times a month to instruct people, for free, in the basic uses of their pc's and in some cases specific instruction such as the class being presented currently on dealing with photos on your computer.
The Award Winning Web site was designed and created by TCCUG member, JJ Clark over many hours this summer. It was a labor of love for Clark and she is one of the most dedicated people in our roster of teachers for the computer classes. Clark came to Port St. Lucie, via New Jersey and Manteo, NC in 2001 and her favorite things beyond her husband, Kevin, are computers, naturally, and photography. Clark can be found on the first and third Wednesdays teaching basic computer concepts and hosting Computing 101.
Classes are mostly held on Wednesday afternnoons at the Port St. Lucie Community Center and Thursday afternoons in Hobe Sound. But don't take my word for it ;go to the web site:
www.tccug.net
and see for yourself what a wonderful informative site it is. You can read much more of our history by clicking on the history connection and more on classes by clicking on our calendar.
