Port St. Lucie - United for Families invites the community to "Stuff the Bus" Aug. 1-2 at the Port St. Lucie Wal-Mart on US Highway 1.
The two-day event is part of the United Way of St. Lucie County's School Supplies for Students drive, which collects paper, pencils, crayons and other school supplies for needy children from the parking lots of St. Lucie County Wal-Mart stores. United for Families, which will operate the U.S. 1 site, will receive enough supplies for 200-250 children in the foster-care system.
School Buses will be parked at four stores throughout the county and manned by volunteers collecting school supplies from the community. Other locations include the Wal-Mart stores at St. Lucie West, Okeechobee Road and Gatlin Boulevard.
The school supplies drive, which combines the efforts of several local businesses and non-profit organizations is now in its 12
th year. This year, drive coordinators hope to collect enough supplies to send 4,000 children back to school prepared for the new year.
