Coaching the Coaches at PAL
Contributed by: Tom Filipkowski on 8/27/2009

At the Port St. Lucie Police Athletic League, dozens of young men and women participate in our core program sports each year. One of the areas where PAL tries to make a difference is in providing our volunteer coaches with training that maximizes their skills in working with our athletes.

Each year, PAL provides CPR and first aid training to the coaches who will be working with the athletes in our larger programs - boxing, karate, track, and wrestling. Executive Director Rich Wilson also works with our coaches on the importance of reinforcing the positive PAL philosophy and spreading the message of an anti-drug, anti-gang, anti-crime lifestyle.

A recent training session, led by Julie Kirby of American Health & Safety, led to the certification of 12 more coaches who will work with PAL's greatest asset - the young men and women who participate in our programs.
