Results of Teen Anglers Fishing Tournament
Contributed by: Cammie Ward on 9/13/2009

SEPTEMBER 13, 2009

Today was the 1st inshore tournament of the new school year. After looking at the weather radar I was not sure if we would fish or not. The weather God's were good to us and we did get the tournament in before the weather turned bad.

We had a total of 21 Teen Anglers fish today. Three of the Teen's moved up from the Junior Teen Angler division -- Jeffrey Garrett, DJ Markowski and Brennen Tessier. We also had six new Teen Anglers -- Justin Harp, Margaret Martzolf, Austin Barnard, Guillermo Gonzalez, Emilio Knowles and Rafael Melendez.

The Teen's were very excited about fishing today. After we did the boat assignments they were off and by 9am I had gotten three calls about fish that were being caught. They had a variety of mangrove snapper, black drum, redfish, trout and snook. Maxwell Higgins had a 2lb. 10oz. redfish and a snapper, Helen Kinchen had 2 snapper, Margaret Martzolf caught 2 snapper, Tyler Heiserman also had 2 snapper, Brennen Tessier had a 1lb. 2oz. trout and a snapper, Lane Burton had 2 snapper and Justin Harp had a 1lb. 6oz. trout. We had 4 Teen's that caught fish but just nothing that was on the fish list.

Dylora Kohler had a 3lb. 6oz. black drum and 2 snapper, Ariel Vance had a 3lb 9oz. redfish and a 3lb. 9oz. black drum, Austin Barnard had a 14oz snapper, Taylor Meding caught a lb. 10oz. trout, Shane Surrency caught a 2lb. 3oz. snapper, a trout and a black drum. Austin Doyle had everyone attention when he brought a 7lb. 6oz. snook to the scale. He also had a trout. All the fish were released that were not taken home for a fish dinner.

Middle School Division
1st place - Austin Doyle - Renaissance Charter School - 7lb. 6oz. snook
2nd place - Ariel Vance - Charter School of Ft. Pierce - 3lb. 9oz. redfish
3rd place - Dylora Kohler - Southern Oaks Middle School - 3lb. 6oz. black drum

High School Division
1st place - Shane Surrency - Lincoln Park Academy - 2lb. 3oz. snapper
2nd place - Taylor Meding - St. Lucie West Centennial High - 1lb. 10oz. trout
3rd place - Austin Barnard - Vero Beach Freshman Learning Center - 14oz. snapper

Biggest fish of the tournament went to Austin Doyle for his snook.

The next inshore tournament is scheduled for Sunday -- October 18th with the mandatory meeting on Saturday -- October 17th. For more info go to the web at www.teenanglers.org

A special Thank You to all of the volunteers -- Capt. Chris Nelson, Capt. Al Bernetti and Capt. Joe Ward. All the Teen's had a great time and are already talking about fishing next month.
