The Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club has announced the date for their 10th annual benefit moonlight golf tournament. A shotgun start will begin the tournament right at Sunset, 6:20 p.m. on Friday, October 30th, at the Sandpiper Golf Course, Club Med in Port St. Lucie.
This is the tenth year in a row that the Sunset Rotary Club has hosted this fun event, a unique experience for many golfers who are used to playing in the light and heat of the day. If in fact you're one of the thousands of golfers who think the game is tough enough during day light hours, try playing after the sun goes down. That's when the real challenges begin. Using "glow in the dark" golf balls and playing by moonlight, golfers confront the challenges of trying to see the fairway, greens and especially the hole. But it's more than the challenges that bring these golfers out. It's also the party atmosphere that these nocturnal linksters love. "It brings a whole new element to the game and even die hard golfers have to laugh at themselves", says Brent Harris, President of the PSL Sunset Rotary Club. "It's a lot of fun and it gets pretty wild!"
Although not mandatory, costumes are encouraged for this year's Halloween weekend event. Prizes for best costume and other categories will be awarded along with the typical golf tournament contests, such as longest putt, hole-in-one, and 50/50.
This tournament is part of the PSL Sunset Rotary Golf Tournament for Charities Program and this year's beneficiaries are the Port St. Lucie High School Athletic Department, Boys Varsity Golf as well as the Port St. Lucie 3rd Grade Dictionary Program. Entry fees for the tournament are $50 per person or $175 per foursome and include the early morning breakfast buffet following the tournament.
The Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary is a local branch of Rotary International. The PSL Sunset Rotary was formed in 2007 and meets the first and third Thursday of each month at the Greenside Tavern in Sandpiper Golf Club. Those interested in the golf tournament or in membership can register on line at www.pslsunsetrotary.net or call Larry Breault at (772) 631-7109 or Julie Lambert at (772) 871-1100 Ext. 207 (9am-5pm). The Sandpiper Golf Club is located at 4500 SE Pine Valley Street, in Club Med, Port St. Lucie, FL 34952.
