Have you eaten at Susie Q's before?
This cute little dinner across the street from city hall in Port Saint Lucie, has some of the best food around, and the greatest staff in the area.
With the owner Susie Martin manning the kitchen she whips up some favorites that keep the crowds coming back for more. I know the favorite with my crowd on Sunday mornings are the crab omelets, and un-sweet tea.
Folks don't just come in for the food though, Susie Q's is also the drop off spot for packages and goodies being sent over to the troops in Afghanistan.
Right now Susie and her crew are sending at least 8 boxes of stuff out ever 5 weeks to a soldier stationed at Camp Blessing. In these boxes you can find anything from toothbrushes and toiletries to candies and snacks.
There are other ways to get involved also, the is candy being sold at the front counter, a stain glass angel that is being raffled off, and there is a jar that pulls in $60 some Sundays, that all goes to help fund the efforts of this little local eatery.
I got a chance to chat with Susie's mom Delores Gaba, who spear heads the packing and shipping, and she told me that they are happy to take names of men and women that are overseas, so if you have family that is there drop by and leave them an address.
As one of the regulars told me today you come in for not only the food but the hugs and smiles too. There is no better recommendation then that in my book. And you know I will be crowding the back wall with my large church group every Sunday morning.
