LogOn the Loggerhead turtle was in search of a hearty hamburger in Port St. Lucie and Susie Q's St. Lucie Cafe stepped up to the plate.
This quaint, diner-style restaurant, located across from City Hall, has quite the selection of breakfast and lunch entrees.
I made my way to a table in the back, so I could observe the clientele as I perused the menu. From locals and city workers, to tourists, Susie Q's seems to attract a variety of customers with its tasty fare.
My long crawl through St. Lucie County had stirred up quite an appetite, so I ordered the half pound burger with fries, $5.50. I needed something to quench my thirst, and the sweet tea, $1.50, did just the trick. As I awaited my lunch, I was pleased to see a lunch counter, a rare sight in today's modern restaurants.
The counter and bar stools that overlook the kitchen brought me back to the days when diners were a common attraction and lunchtime conversation among the regulars was how the latest local news and gossip was disseminated. At Susie Q's, this atmosphere is still present, and many patrons take advantage of the opportunity to converse between bites.
My mouth watered as I took a glance at the plate the server was bringing my way - the burger took up most of the plate! The crisp fries were a perfect match to this lunchtime feast, and I enjoyed indulging in this classic combination.
The lunch menu at Susie Q's ranges from house salads, $2.95 and egg salad sandwiches, $4.25, to beef Philly cheese sandwiches and chicken wraps, $7.95. Breakfast is also available, with favorites such as omelets and pancakes.
If you are looking for classic lunchtime fare and atmosphere, stop by Susie Q's.
