It was a quiet day in Port St. Lucie, so LogOn the Loggerhead decided to spice things up and try Zapata's Border Caf for lunch.
This southwestern grill stimulated my senses from the moment I walked through the door. The colorful dcor and the aroma of southwestern fare made my mouth water - I couldn't wait to see the menu.
I was pleased to get a booth in the sunlit enclosed dining area on the north side of the restaurant, which allowed me to sun myself in air-conditioned comfort. I was quickly served a basket of chips and salsa. Ahhh, sun and salsa, what more could a turtle want?
Despite my contentment, I saw several items on the menu that piqued my interest. Luckily, Zapata's offers several combination entrees which I decided to sample. I ordered the taco and chalupa combo, $8.49 from the Lunch Express section of the menu.
My lunch came with a bowl of pepper-jack cheese soup, which preceded the entre. The soup was very good, creamy with a nice spicy kick to it. Soon after, my entre arrived with a rather large taco - a crisp corn tortilla filled with ground beef, tomatoes, onions, and cheese - I could barely wrap my flippers around it!
I also experienced my first chalupa, which was stuffed with grilled chicken, tomatoes, onions and cheese, very similar to the taco but served in a crisp flour tortilla.
Zapata's Border Caf provides diners with an impressive variety of southwestern cuisine, but the "North of the border" items and kid's menu ensure everyone in your party leaves happy and not hungry.
