Alzheimer's Care Group Have Fun to "Spare"
Contributed by: Bill Ronayne on 5/1/2009

Alzheimer's disease afflicts over 26 million people worldwide. While the cause and progression of Alzheimer's disease are not well understood, currently used treatments offer a small symptomatic benefit.

Stimulation-oriented treatments include art, music and pet therapies and exercise. These activities support improved behavior, mood, and function. But, the main support for the use of stimulation therapies is the improvement in the person's daily life routines.

Many organizations that strive to alleviate the pressures of caring for victims of this disease, keeping them safe, fed and comfortable. Most do an admirable job, some go above and beyond. One of those is Alzheimer's Community Care, Inc.

The Fort Pierce Specialized Alzheimer's Day Care Center, a division of Alzheimer's Community Care, Inc. recently participated in an outing at Saint Lucie Lanes.

Jamie Pietrzak, Program Manager had this to say; "Alzheimer's Community Care's Ft. Pierce Specialized Daycare had a very special treat on Wednesday, April 22nd. Our group of 19 ladies and gentlemen suffering from Dementia were given a much appreciated gift from Mr. Wiggins and the caring staff at Saint Lucie Lanes."

"We arrived at the Family Bowling & Fun Center shortly after noon and were greeted promptly by Bob Wiggins, who had everything in place for our patients to utilize 6 bowling lanes. We were catered to for the next hour and half as we bowled, laughed and shared in excitement. Next came lunch, hearty plates of grilled cheese and french fries."

"I can not say enough about the continuous support and generosity of Mr. Wiggins and Saint Lucie Lanes. Our patients, caregivers and staff are grateful for a fantastic day of fun!"
