Questions regarding Hair Color are usually most commonly heard throughout our Salons. In today's article we look to Jamie Brookins a stylist in Sebastian to help us compile and answer popular color questions she hears from clients.
QUESTION: How is my well water affecting my hair color?
Answer: The iron and copper in well water will change blondes because of the chemical build-up. These clients should be using a color safe clarifying shampoo and a moisturizing conditioner and minimizing the excessive contact of their hair with the well water.
QUESTION: Red, Blonde, Brown or Black how do I know the right color for me?
Answer: The color choice must be compatible with features you have that cannot be changed. Is your skin tone rose, yellow, olive or brown? This helps your stylists suggest colors or highlights that will enhance your skin tone rather than clash with it.
QUESTION: Why does my color fade so fast?
Answer: The #1 reason is many clients are not aware they need to use color safe hair products. Many store bought hair products contain ingredients that will strip the color from the hair. It is best to follow the product recommendations of your stylist.
QUESTION: Deciding on COLOR or Highlights
Answer: This is a two part answer. 1. What are the goals of the client? Is it a drastic or subtle change? If it is gray coverage, all over color is an obvious quick fix. However, Highlights would give a more naturally blended solution.
2. Lifestyle: Colored hair will show a re-growth line and generally requires more upkeep. Plan on being in the Salon every 4-6 weeks. Highlighted hair tends to last longer before a retouch is needed. Trendy clients with the latest haircuts will need to select color services that go best with their haircuts.
QUESTION: How about Male Hair Color ?
Answer: Many men look to hair color to help them with gray coverage. Depending on the desired results, whether it's complete coverage or just more of a blended natural look determines which products are used. The REDKEN color system offers a 20 minute service that helps give guys more "pepper than salt" without compromising their natural look.
