A group of St. Lucie fencers recently participated in an foil fencing exhibition event hosted by Fort Lauderdale's Sabre Outreach Network. The tournament featured foil fencers from St. Lucie county and the Fort Lauderdale area, as well as multiple divisions for sabre fencers. Local athletes swept the gold, silver and bronze medals in both the youth and adult foil categories.
"While we were thrilled to do so well, the event was more about the Sabre Outreach Network providing us a venue for our first foil tournament," said local instructor, Ken Moran. "They are primarily a sabre organization run by nationally renowned coach Mitch Berliner, and they were gracious enough to invite us to the exhibition tournament that included their new foil division."
Moran says the local group hopes to hold local tournaments in the near future. The club also wants to continue to build its relationship with the Sabre Outreach Network's successful program.
Weekly beginner foil fencing classes are held at the PSL Community Center, The St. Luice Civic Center and the Fenn Center in Ft. Pierce. Information: Call Ken Moran at 772-618-3099 or email kenfencer@aol.com.
