RAVENS WIN 2009 PSLAA FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Contributed by: NIles Graben on 11/25/2009

MCCORKLE FIELD PORT ST. LUCIE - The Treasure Coast Stills-sponsored Ravens claimed the 2009 Port St. Lucie Athletic Association (PSLAA) championship Saturday, Nov. 21 defeating the 2008 champion Phil Raymond Construction-sponsored Raiders 35-7.

The Raiders scored first, taking advantage of a Ravens fumble on an opening drive, when all-star running back Michael McInnis took a pitch from quarterback Nathan Bo and raced around left end for a 68-yard touchdown. Bo again fed McInnis the football and McInnis converted for an early 7-0 lead.

The Ravens took possession on the Raider side of the field after an onside kick and drove 48 yards for the tying score capped by a three-yard sweep of right end by Ravens running back Cody Neese. Jeremiah Washington, in shot gun formation at quarterback, passed to Neese for a conversion to tie the score 7-7.

The Ravens defense, aided by a shot gun snap that soared over the head of McInnis, held the Raiders on four downs and again took possession on the Raiders side of the field early in the second quarter. Jordan Mason sprinted 33 yards for a Ravens touchdown that would prove to be the game-winner. Ravens quarterback Jeremy Russell rolled right and passed to Enzo Everett running a fade route in the end zone for a two-point conversion to put the Ravens up 15-7.

Key stops by Jason Halperin, Michael Farley, Noah Graben, Neese and a host of Ravens stopped another Raiders drive just short of the Ravens 40-yard line late in the second quarter. Jeremiah Washington passed for ten yards to tight end Enzo Everett. Still in shotgun, Washington passed deep to Jeremy Russell on the next play and Russell scored, racing into the end zone after hauling in Washington's pass in stride near the Raiders 30-yard line. The Raven defense again stopped the Raider offense as the first-half expired with the Ravens ahead 21-7.

Washington opened the second-half with an onside kick bouncing well above the Raiders kick return front line caught mid-air by Neese to give the Ravens possession near mid-field to start the second-half. The Ravens drove 54 yards capped by fullback Enzo Everett's score from the Raiders 1-yard line. Jeremy Russell swept left end for a conversion and a 28-7 lead.

The Ravens defense again swarmed Raiders rushers forcing a McInnis fourth-down fumble out-of-bounds at the Ravens 38-yard line. Russell read a Raiders first-down blitz and passed to Neese, who was open on a tight-end post route accounting for a 62-yard touchdown and the championship game's second one-play touchdown drive. Mason rushed for a conversion for a 35-7 lead. The final quarter was scoreless as both teams played reserves.
