It's Time for CAMP BARN THEATRE AGAIN!!
Contributed by: The Barn Theatre on 5/27/2008

During the months of July and August, kids from several of the local counties will be learning the craft of live theatre with real theatre professionals at The Barn Theatre in Stuart. The kids will be completly submerged into every possible aspect of theatre from costume design, set building, auditioning, producing, directing, improvisational skills, acting and yes, even stage combat. Ask any of last year's camp participants if they enjoyed Camp Barn Theatre, and you will always get an enthusiastic, "yes"!

Camp Barn Theatre was the brainchild of local veteran actor, director and drama teacher, Linda West. Ms. West serves on The Barn's Board of Directors, and is also the Chairperson of The Barn's Fundraising and Theatre Arts commitees. The Barn Theatre feels it is not just a summer camp, but a real theatrical learning experience. Only students entering 4th through 10th grades are accepted. Camp registration was limited to just 25 students to ensure a real, hands-on learning experience for the kids. Camp Director, Beth Hand has an extensive background in theatre and presently is working as a teacher for the St. Lucie County school system.

My own daughter and several of her friends partipated in last year's camp; and needless to say, they are all coming back this summer. As a parent I was completely blown away by what these kids accomplished at the camp, as well as the quality and professionalism they demonstrated during the camp shows. Everyone had such a good time and got so much out of it, that more than half of last year's campers are returning again this summer.

Theatre is a team effort, and from what I have seen, these kids put aside any differences they may have and all work together as a group no matter what their age. Along the way they also learn about other things beside theatre such as dedication, trust, self-esteem, compassion and respect for others. All this, and they get to be silly too!

The culmination of Camp Barn Theatre will be a Romeo & Juliet parody called "Romero & Julie", which will be performed on Friday (Aug 1) & Saturday (Aug 2) at 8PM, and Sunday (Aug 3) at 2PM at The Barn Theatre. Please come on out and show your support to our campers. Tickets are $10.00 each and may be purchased at the door - No reservations needed!

Camp fees include a $25 registration fee and costs $115 per week for camp tuition. It is a four-week conservatory study of all the broad fundamentals of theatre. Space is limited so please register now.

Please call camp Registar Christine Birkett at (772) 607-0857 or Artistic Director Linda West at (772) 878-4279 for more information or check out the theatre's websites at:
