Here's a list of some common mistakes for buyers and owners of HDTV sets.
1. Keep chemicals away from TV, ammonia in windex and other such glass cleaners can damage coatings! Liquids sprayed on the screen can seep between the bezel and panel and cause all kinds of problems. It's best to just use a slightly damp microfiber cloth. Try not to use wood-based paper products like newspaper or paper towels which can create tiny scratches.
2. When shopping for a flatscreen tv remember that most plasma tv's have a glass panel that when installed in a brightly lit room can cause a glare.
3. Don't pay too much attention to those formulas that use room size to determine screen size. Buy the biggest TV that fits with your furnishings, You'll be happy that you did!
4. Keep in mind that if you don't have an upconverting receiver or dvd player ( this
takes normal images and turns them into HD format ) you may get black bars on the sides or top and bottom of your picture. All programming is not in HD so some are still sized for older non HD sets.
5. Don't leave the brightness up too high. Many TV's are shipped with the brightness setting in "showroom" mode. In a normally lit living room the brightness can be reduced and still give you a great picture, it also saves energy. Some of the newer TV's have built in light sensors that automatically adjust to the brightness according to the ambient lighting conditions.
6. Purchase a quality HDMI cable, this will greatly improve the picture and sound. Yes they are sometimes costly. Shop around and don't pay for packaging, most less expensive cables are just as good as the more expensive ones but the package isn't as pretty!
7. If your going to hang your TV have it done by a professional. You don't want your investment to hit the floor! or worse, one of your family members!

This is great information about plasma TV's. We clean everthing with a cleaning product, without a second thought that it might damage the TV.
