Returning from my last trip to visit my native country of Czech Republic was different this time. Although I have made many trips between Europe and America, this one was special in many ways.
For starters, my daughter was 18 months old and started to speak Czech during our two weeks there, bonded with her grandma and grandpa unbelievably so for the first time, I felt really horrible leaving the two of them - my parents - behind the security gate at the airport. They get to see their darling grand-daughter about every 6 months and each time she is a different child.
Traveling without my husband who couldn't get time off of work was another thing - we have done it before but not on such long flights. Miami-Zurich-Prague seemed to be neverending but my sweet little girl did great. Most of the time she was trying to figure out how to buckle and unbuckle her seat belt until she succeeded ... No complains here, probably also because of our carry-on bag full of toys!
Having an empty seat next to us on all four fligts of the trip helped big time - although she flew as an infant in lap.
At this point I should say that Swiss Airlines were the best I have ever flown with - very nice flight attendants, great food, little swiss chocolates as treats and smaller, comfortable planes. You barely noticed the take offs and landings!
Well and when we landed in Miami, the immigration officer checked out my daughter's American passport and my Czech one along with my Green Card and said: Welcome home. That was another first - and it felt nice.
