The magical city of Prague
Contributed by: Iva Campbell on 4/2/2007

Prague.
Beautiful city in the very heart of Europe.
Magical place where history breathes from every building, every street corner, every church staircase, every statue and where your steps seem to take you far, far away from your busy, fast paced life.
On the other hand, this cosmopolitan city has grown new and modern buildings and opened up to world businesses - it almost feels like ancient Babylon with all the languages mixed up - you barely hear the native tongue of Czech in the buzz of English, French, German, Spanish, Portugese and Russian ...
Sometimes it is hard to escape the numerous tourist groups from all over the world trying to visit central Europe in a rush and have a day or two to see it all.
If you want to truly experience what Prague is about you need to have time to get lost in its narrow lanes and old streets, to find little unique cafes and tiny galleries bursting with very original art work or beautiful glass artefacts. You need to walk through fantastic gardens and parks along the river Moldau, listen to a concert in a baroque church, eat in one of the kind restaurants that offer culinary treats of the true Czech cuisine.
Prague is different from other cities in the world - it has a spirit, its own ghosts (which you can go chase after if you decide to go for a Night Ghost tour), a way to intrigue you into falling in love ...
Most of the center's buildings were built centuries ago, Charles Bridge with 32 statues on its railing has been standing there since late 14th century! Fantastic baroque and gothic churches majestically stand on every other street, and cobble stones on the ground make sure you walk slow to take it all in.
Prague is called a city of thousands of towers, and if you climb a miniature - true copy of Eiffel Tower that looks over the city, you can see that. Tall or short, everywhere you see little or big towers on top of churches and theaters and old buildings.
Prague is where my heart is. I wish for everyone to be able to travel to Czech Republic and visit this beautiful place and see for themselves.

/Prague is the capital of Czech Republic, former Czechoslovakia, located in the center of Europe. Czechoslovakia was one of the communist countries of Eastern Europe until 1989. That was a year when "Velvet Revolution" took place and communist era officially ended. The same happened in former Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Eastern Germany and Poland around the same time.
All those countries were kept behind the "Iron Curtain" and people not allowed to travel to Western = capitalistic countries or be in contact with anyone outside the communist block./
