CAPE CARES VOLUNTEER NEWS
Ben Inserra of Port Saint Lucie recently traveled to San Marcos, Honduras with Cape CARES. Ben has been with Cape CARES since 1992 and he has just completed his 14th trip to Honduras. Cape CARES is an organization that sends teams of volunteers to southern Honduras where the people have no access to health care. Volunteers include dentists, physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, dental hygienists, optometrists, chiropractors, pharmacists, translators, and support personnel. Cape CARES was started in 1988 by Dr. Ted Keary, a dentist from Cape Cod, who led a team of seventy people to the north coast of Honduras. In the years since, Cape CARES has grown to an organization of several hundred volunteers. Teams of volunteers travel to three different sites in southern Honduras. People walk for up to five hours to receive free medical and dental care from the American volunteers. Cape CARES volunteers pay their own expenses, and donate their time and expertise to bring care to these people who have no access to health care. Volunteers are always needed -please join them! If you are unable to join them on a trip to Honduras but would like to help, your financial contribution will help to purchase medical supplies and medicine so that they may provide ongoing care.
