Lorenzo Gutierrez and family were recently vacationing on the Treasure Coast. While staying at the Dockside Inn in Fort Pierce, the boys were fishing from the docks and catching the occasional snapper and pinfish. Lorenzo promised to take the guys fishing while on their vacation.
I met Lorenzo, Eddie, Julian and Loren at the Black Pearl ramp early that morning. The boys were excited and got up early in anticipation of a fun day on the water. As we left the ramp, the boys told me they had never been on a boat before. They were just a little nervous as we got up on plane to head to our fishing spot for the day. It didn't take long for them to realize it was lots of fun being in the boat and they relaxed for the ride.
The first line in the water landed their first fish of the day and it was non-stop fishing the rest of the morning. Lorenzo didn't fish much as the boys were keeping me busy baiting lines and taking fish off. We got a few good photos as the fish were waiting on each shrimp they guys cast to them. Trout, snapper, jacks and ladyfish were coming to the boat one after another that morning. Julian had a big sheephead next to the boat just as it broke his line. Loren landed a very nice pompano a short time later. Lorenzo managed to fish some and lost a big trout next to the boat. I could tell by the smiles on their faces that this was a trip they would remember for a long time.
We eventually ran out of live shrimp, so I tied on a DOA shrimp to their popping corks and the continued to catch more fish. They had wanted to try some artificial fishing and this was an easy way to introduce the guys to it. You have never seen three boys fishing so determined. They caught 75 - 100 fish that day. We lost count after a while. I think I was smiling as much as they were. It was a fun day for sure!
As we headed back down the river with 4 trout, 6 snapper and one nice pompano in the box for the boys to take back for dinner, all you could hear was stories already being told about the fish they caught and the ones that got away. I love having kids on the boat. They couldn't wait to get back to the Dockside and show their catch off to mom and grandma. I am pretty sure they will be telling fish tales for quite a while!
