Contributed by: Beth Mitchell on 5/14/2008

The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce, an organization that supports business, promotes tourism and works on quality of life issues in the community, announced today that it received a $15,000 donation from the National City-Harbor Foundation. The donation will help towards the renovation of the Chamber building on 700 Main St., in Sebastian. The Chamber intends to do major repairs to the building, including adding a wrap around porch for visitors to enjoy while they are gathering information about the Sebastian River Area.

"The donation from National City will enable the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce to improve the appearance of the Pelican Porch Visitor's Center, and provide a more professional image for the businesses in the area, helping to promote the Sebastian River Area to tourists, visitors and residents alike. "Ultimately, this will allow us to move forward with the building project in a timely manner, and encourage other businesses to contribute their time, talents, and money to finish the project."

The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating their fiftieth year as a business organization created in 1958. The Chamber represents over six hundred businesses, with approximately 2,000 employees, and provides services and projects to the business members to help them increase their market share and reduce their operating expenses. The Chamber actively promotes the area to tourists, s upports community events, education activities and works towards quality of life issues on behalf of the business community.

"We are proud to support the efforts of the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce as they continue their work to improve economic conditions in our community" stated J. Hal Roberts, market president for the Central/Northeast Region of National City.

The donation is part of National City's ongoing efforts to be a contributing member of the community. National City has designated a charitable fund of $2 million to be used and administered exclusively in Central and Northeast Florida.
