Everyday I talk to people who, because of their kind and generous spirit, spend tons of their precious time and money on friends and relatives. I think this is wonderful and I applaud their relentless kindness. But I'm always forced to ask, "But what have you done for yourself?" And more times than not the answer is a blank stare. These kind, generous folks are so busy helping and doing for others that they can't even remember the last time they did even one nice thing for themselves. Sooner or later they are going to burn out.
If you think you might be one of these people. Let me give you some suggestions on how to be good to yourself. Take a 30 minute walk on the beach, barefooted. Spend 15 minutes sitting in the sun, naked. Read something really interesting, like a gossip magazine. Get a foot massage, outdoors. And my very favorite, kiss a stranger (or just imagine you did!).
Of course, if none of these suggestions are appealing to you, then think of some that are. Remember, they can't be work related and they have to be of a selfish nature. The point being that if you spend some time being good to yourself, you will have your batteries charged when it comes time for helping others. Jill Vogel, C.B.L.C. Life Coach
