Get Excited - The Sebastian Clambake is Coming!
Contributed by: Anjani Cirillo on 8/14/2008

The Sebastian Clambake Lagoon Festival is back, and this year's slogan is "Clam Up and Chowder Down." Fresh seafood booths, live music, historic re-enactments, a boat show, the Wacky Raft Race, children's activities, a volleyball tournament, the Kayak Poker Run, vendor booths and more, will again be the focus in Sebastian's Riverview Park from 2 PM to 9PM on Friday, November 7, 10AM to 9PM on Saturday, and 10AM to 6PM on Sunday, November 9. Admission is free - tickets are for sale for food and T-shirts. We have scheduled live music throughout the weekend.

The Sebastian Clambake, billed as a "Lagoon Festival", celebrates our special way of life along the Indian River, which has been the life-blood of our community from the beginning. The lagoon provides our people with recreation, tranquil beauty and has fed our people for generations. The Festival is known throughout the state for the quality of its food: linguine with red & white clam sauce, peel & eat tiger shrimp, clam chowder, fried fish & clam strips, fabulous clams, and sausage, pepper & onion sandwiches are our featured culinary delights. And we can't forget the cold draft beer and sodas!

The Sebastian Clambake Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, organizes the festival, and the proceeds are dedicated to a local non-profit capital project. Volunteers from our local community comprise the entire labor force.

This year there are three organizations that will benefit from the event: H.A.L.O. Animal Rescue Shelter, the City of Sebastian's flagpole project, and the Sebastian Soccer Association.

The first two Clambakes designated the Boys and Girls Club's Sebastian Building Fund as the beneficiary, and the Foundation donated over $83,000 towards the new facility on Main Street.Seniors were the focus for the fundraising in 2005, with proceeds benefiting projects for the Senior Resource Association and By the River Affordable Senior Housing Facility. The Sebastian Soccer Association and Sebastian's Riverview Park received beneficiary monies in 2006. To date, the Foundation has given away more than $200,000.
