November 8, 2008 from 9:00am until 12:00pm I will be conducting a Refuse to be a Victim Seminar at the Vero Fashion Outlet Mall (Room C170) located at 1824 94th Drive.
Safety experts agree the single most important step toward ensuring your personal safety is making the conscious decision to Refuse to be a Victim. You stand a much better chance of preventing criminal attack if you develop a safety plan before you need it.
This seminar is important to help our community understand how to be safe and secure. AWARENESS is the key to avoiding criminal attack. How often have you left the doors of your automobile unlocked while at the filling station, where you are distracted while at the gas pump or in the station speaking with the attendant? You have inadvertently left your valuables vulnerable to theft. Remove your keys from the ignition and lock your doors. Remember, someone may be watching.
This seminar promotes awareness and prevention of criminal confrontations. Seminar topics include home, automobile, phone, technological, travel and personal safety. Seminar participants are presented with a variety of commonsense crime prevention and personal safety strategies and devices they may integrate into their daily lives. The Seminar is three to four hours long and open to the public.
Refuse to be a Victim was developed in 1993 in response to requests from women natiowide for crime prevention seminars. In 1997, the program became coed. With over 1,000 instructors nationwide, seminars have been presented in 50 states and the District of Columbia. More than 26,000 men and women have benefited from the program's life saving message.
NRA Executive Director of General Operations, Craig Sandler said, "Without the active involvement of exceptional members of the law enforcement community, NRA programs could not reach as many individuals at the local community level." The program has been endorsed by members of the law enforcement community nationwide.
To see a small clip of what the class will be life go toNRA programs for Women and click on Refuse to be a Victim. There is a small video clip that you can watch.
Cost is $8.00 a person. To register or for more information, call Deputy Roberta Hall at (772)770-5028 or email

.
Refuse to be a Victim provides an invaluable community service. People leave this course feeling empowered and confident because they learn how to develop a personal safety strategy.
