The GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman's Club held its annual flatsfishing tournament Saturday, May 9 at Squid Lips.
In our Junior Division (12 and under) who fish free, we had 10 children entered. Congratulations to our three winners - 1st Place, Collin Willis, 7.89 lb trout; 2nd Place, Chandler Flood, 1.62 lb trout and in 3rd Place was Alexa Adams, 0.915 lb ladyfish.
We had 56 adults registered with winners in three categories - Snook, Trout and Redfish. Our only Snook entry was caught by Larry Walter weighing 5.58 pounds. In the Trout division, 1st Place, Larry Walter, 8.05 lbs; 2nd Place, William Farmer, 8.03 lbs; 3rd Place, Connie Willis, 5.81 lbs. The Redfish division winners were - 1st Place, Rich Willis, 6.86 lbs; 2nd Place, Connie Willis, 6.02 lbs; 3rd Place, James Dorman 4.54 lbs. Bringing in a Redfish with the most spots went to Ben Bishop with 5 spots. We thank all those who fished our tournament for your participation and will see you next Mother's Day weekend at Squid Lips!
The club would like to thank all the businesses who sponsored or donated to our fishing tournament. Without your help, we would not have the success we need to continue our projects in this area. Last year we were able to fund our WHALE project, which was supplying Child Car Seat Identification kits to all newborn babies at Indian River Memorial Hospital and to creating a Child Interview Room at the Sebastian Police Department.
