Giving Thanks to Community Supporters
Contributed by: Krista Sadlers on 9/13/2009

Last year, I celebrated a big milestone. I completed my first endurance event, running the Disney 1/2 marathon, in memory of my Uncle Tim who lost his brave battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was able to accomplish this with the help of a great organization called Team in Training (TNT). This local team not only trains people to participate in endurance events, but they take on a bigger cause: finding a cure for blood cancers. While the team is training, they are also raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

After months of hard work, I met my fundraising goal and crossed the finish line. It was an exhilarating experience, yet even that did not compare to the reaction I received from my family, in particular, from my son. He gave me a big hug, told me how proud he was of me and then announced that he would like to run it with me next year. True to his word, my sixteen year old son signed up for TNT with me this year.

Although fundraising for two participants seemed a bit daunting in these troubled times, we set about calling on our local businesses for their help. And help they did! I wanted to take the time to extend thanks to the many businesses in our community who continue to support the fundraising efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in various ways, even in these tough economic times.

Generous contributions were made by Dr. S.L. Spallone, Indian River Insurance Agency, Don's Aluminum, Affordable Water & Coffee Service, Greens +, Free Time Cleaning and Errand Service, Trendsetters Construction, Pelican Pediatrics, Anytime Fitness, Tim Modesitt at State Farm Insurance, Community Tire and Auto Service, Harry Parker Photography, and Whispering Palms MHC & RV Resort.

Donations for our upcoming silent auction (to be held on Thursday, November 12 at Disney's Vero Beach) were given by Eminence Hair Design, Positive Change, Sebastian Municipal Golf Course, Mel Fischer Museum, Miracle's Books and Gifts, Theatre-Go-Round and A Misty Moment Photography.

Finally, Vickie Grabe of Jungle Jane Fitness at Elite Physiques helped to organize a Zumba event. Ocean Grille donated the use of their property and instructors Tiffany Kleckner and Alvin Hill generously gave of their time.

Andrew and I are thankful for such an overwhelming response to our call to help with our efforts on behalf of Team in Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We have reached the halfway mark of our fundraising goal thanks to the community support we have received.
