Contributed by: Kathleen Messersmith on 1/30/2007

The GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman's Club held an installation dinner and awards ceremody on January 27 at their clubhouse located at 952 US 1.

Teddy Hulse, 1st Vice President of the GFWC Florida Federation of Woman's Clubs, installed the new officers for 2007-2008. Katie Hulse was installed as President. Serving with her are Linda Votapka, 1st Vice President/Membership; Kathy Messersmith, 2nd Vice President/Leadership; Amanda Larsen, Recording Secretary; Beth Cammarota, Treasurer and Mary Hill, Corresponding Secretary.

Linda Votapka, the President for 2006-2007 also announced the winners of several awards the club members had voted on in December. Recipients were Beth Cammarota, Junior of the Year; Liz Rines, Rookie of the year and Kate Rines, Spirit Award. The club also honors their very helpful husbands with Auxiliary of the Year, which went to Chris Cammarota.

Katie's theme this year is "Be Spotted Volunteering". Her goal is to get the Community aware of the volunteer work the club does. The Junior Woman's Club hopes the community will see and recognize the volunteer work of it's members and the difference they make in our community. We are always looking for new members and believe that if our volunteering can be "spotted" throughout the community, we will be able to draw new members to enable us to conintue helping our community in more ways.

The Junior Woman's Club is active as a support group for many other organizations in addition to working on projects of our own. We believe our volunteering makes for a better community and gives us great satisfaction in the rewards we receive by helping others, whether it be creating and maintaining the butterfly garden, marching in the parades with band, flags and float, holding arts and crafts for children, sponsoring scholarships at the local high school or helping with the holiday meals at the Senior Center, as well as many others.

These are a few ways we help in our community. If you are interested in learning more or becoming a part of this volunteer organization, please come to a meeting. We meet the second Monday of every month at 7 m at our clubhouse located at 942 US 1 in Sebastian. You can also call 589-8611 for more information or email us at gfwcsebastianriverjrwomansclub@yahoo.com.

The GFWC Sebastian River Junior Woman's Club is a proud member of the General Federation of Women's Club, the oldest and one of the largest women's service organizations in the world.
