Contributed by: Nadine Evans on 9/30/2009

Friday September 11, 2009 the Sebastian Elks Lodge #2714 celebrated Patriot Day by laying a wreath at the new 9-11 memorial in Riverview park. Exalted Ruler Charles DeLauder and 1st Lady Mary DeLauder placed a wreath at the memorial during a ceremony attended by numerous civic, religious and veterans groups along with a large number of citizens from the Sebastian Area.
That evening a dinner dance was held at the Elks Lodge to honor the areas first responders of the year. Lt Toby Turner of the Indian River County Fire Department, Officer Theo Robinson of the Sebastian Police Department, Det Anthony Dissis of the Indian River County Sheriff's Department and Officer Mark Johnson of the Indian River corrections department were all invited to receive awards for being officer of the year for their departments.
Over 180 guests enjoyed a full roast beef dinner, music and dancing. The funds raised will be used to pay for the 9-11 memorial stone at Riverview park.
This annual celebration will be held next year by the Knights of Columbus.
