In 1891, Captain Joseph Mcfee placed a solitary pot on the dock at the Oakland Ferry Landing hoping to raise enough money to provide Christmas dinner for the poor. Since then The Salvation Army's Red Kettle has become a philanthropic holiday tradition nationwide with millions of dollars donated nationwide.
Red Kettle donations provide Christmas dinner, clothing, and toys for families in need throughout Indian River County. Even beyond that, Red Kettle donations help fund local programs and services year round for at risk children and families. 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support these services. We are committed to helping those in need achieve personal growth and self-sufficiency through all available resources, community partnerships and local volunteer networks.
Volunteer bell ringers help The Salvation Army reduce cost and maximize the funds raised. 100% volunteer participation would result a large windfall of extra money that will go toward the program and services in Indian River County.
Join Us..!! You can play a significant role in this effort and together we can impact our community. Encourage your school, club, office or church to adopt a kettle for a day, a week, or even longer. Choose a time frame that fits your schedule and then choose from over 20 locations throughout Indian River County.
Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in pairs for 2 hour time slots and up to ten people could man a kettle for an entire day. Bell ringing hours are Monday thru Saturday from 10am to 8pm November 13th thru December 24th.
For more information or to inquire about volunteering call The Salvation Army at 978-0265, "Give us a Ring" and help us make change this Christmas.
