Last night was a beautiful night to enjoy the waters of the Indian River, and I did just that with a group of warm hearted friendly people. One man in particular stands out in my mind; he was in his 70's. As he paddled as he told us stories about his three wives and made jokes about himself.
He had the most wonderful outlook on life, I wish more people shared. Live one day at a time and enjoy the moment.
We paddled through the mangroves and around spoil islands to have a picnic before the moon rose. He wasn't the fastest paddler on the trip but I do believe he got the most out of it, as did the three women who decided to stick with him rather than to chase after the younger men of the group.
We relaxed in our kayaks floating under the bright glow of the moon and laughed at each others stories. I slept very well last night and awoke feeling refreshed and renewed.
Kayaking can be a sport that tests your athletic abilities but it can also be a low impact work out for individuals of ages that feeds your spirit as it exercises your body.
Tomorrow I will take a group of school children on the water. The trip will be much different than last nights outing. It will be faster and more energetic and there will be lots of first time experiences out there. It will be as enjoyable to me as the relaxing trip last night.
