National Honor for Big Dog Comics
Contributed by: "Capt Joel" Kilmer - Big Dog Comics on 7/25/2007

Yet again local comic and game store Big Dog Comics has chosen by Wizards of the Coast, not once but twice, to host their nationally recognized gaming tournaments. The Dungeons & Dragons miniatures Night Below release tournament was held on July 8th while on July 14 players from Vero to West Palm Beach gathered for the much anticipated Magic the Gathering Game Day featuring the long anticipated 10th edition of the popular game.

The Dungeons & Dragons miniatures Night Below release tournament brought players from as far as Okeechobee to have fun in epic battles played on miniature battlefields. Port St. Lucie resident Chris Carpenter took 1st place, Toni from Okeechobee took 2nd and Lakewood park resident, fisherman and Boy Scout, Vincent Serio took 3rd. Everyone had fun and all went home with great new miniatures, cool collectables and prizes supplied by Wizards of the Coast.

Big Dog Comics was then honored as 1 of only 300 stores Nation wide to host Magic the Gathering Game Day and an official release tournament for the new 10th Edition or Magic on July 14. Various types of Magic games were scheduled throughout the day with the release tournament starting at 6:30. "We started at 1:00 PM and finally finished a little after 1:30 AM Sunday morning." Owner Capt Joel smiled. "What a day!"

"When people started calling 6 days before the Tournament to get directions and reserve there seat (the store had a 40 player limit) we knew it was going to be a big day" Capt Joel said. With calls from Palm Beach, Jupiter, Hobe Sound and Vero we prepared for the eminent excitement.

Local Wizards of the Coast representative Bill Cassonelli was on hand before opening to help Big Dog prepare. He gave Magic the Gathering demos thru out the day and helped answer questions during the events. With all contestants in the final two events receiving a rare foil card and many other prizes [supplied by Wizards of the Coast] just for playing, not to mention being among the first to see and play the new 10th Edition cards, all went home with smiles and stuff.

Good times, fun and fair play abounded on both days. Big Dog Comics was proud to be chosen once again by Wizards of the Coast as a special store to hold these world release tournaments. "I would be remiss if I didn't thank all who came and enjoyed themselves. Thanks to gamers and comic fans Big Dog Comics once again broke all sales records on Magic Game Day. I thank everyone who has graced our store in the last year and a half. The fans and collectors have made Big Dog Comics the most enjoyed and respected Comic and Gaming store on the Treasure Coast. I humbly thank each and every one." Capt Joel said proudly.
