Summers Gone By
Contributed by: Mary Jocksberger on 10/27/2007

The summers that I remember were in the l930's. A different world.
Young people today might find it interesting?

Summers Gone By

wrap-around porches, hammocks and swings
insects buzzing, butterfly wings
tractor rides, rusted gates
dusty paths, icy lakes
tomatos warm off the vine
hanging clothes on a line
collecting Daisy's growing free
chains and bracelets soon to be
quiet lazy afternoons
screen door squeaking a constant tune
drifting towards the end of day
jig-saw puzzles, games to play
the eve is pleasant filled with sighs
from Grandpa's pipe and Grandma's pies
a childhood memory I wish to share
while there still is time to spare
a simple life that once I knew
remembered here just for you
