High school students attending the Clark Advanced Learning Center (CALC) exceeded the state average on all four sections of the ACT college placement test, including English, math, reading and science. The results follow outstanding performance earlier this year by CALC students on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), with the highest passing rates of any high school on the Treasure Coast in reading and math and a perfect 100% pass rate in the math section of the FCAT.
"The continued outstanding performance of our students on state and national exams reflects the top-quality education that students receive at the Clark Advanced Learning Center," said Maria Mosley, CALC Executive Directors. "We place a very strong emphasis on ensuring that students develop the academic foundation they need to succeed in college and careers."
CALC students scored 22.1 in the English section of the ACT, against the 19.0 state score; 21.2 in math, against the 20.0 state score; 25.2 in reading, against the 20.3 state score and 20.1 in science, against the 19.2 state score.
A public charter high school on the Chastain Campus of Indian River State College in Stuart, the CALC motivates students through realistic, career-oriented projects. Each student receives a personal laptop computer to support the integration of technology throughout the curriculum and classroom learning is enhanced through internships. The school serves about 200 sophomores, juniors and seniors who prepare for in-demand careers in education, digital media, health care, computer networking, and many other occupations. Students at the national model school benefit from the opportunity to earn college credits at no cost through dual enrollment.
